Best Buns In Town

September 1, 2011

No no no...not THESE kind of buns...

THESE kind of buns...

Ballerina Buns! wink

This week's BURNING QUESTION is infuego, and concerns, none other, than one of my most beloved 'dos.

Can you tell us how you get such a fab looking ballerina bun??? And what hair products do you use? - Laurie

Well, Darling Laurie, here is what I have to say about that...

First off, I'm flattered you find my buns "fab-looking." I actually think I'm quite bad at doing my hair, which is why it's either up in a bun/pony, or down -I don't mess with that curling iron, curler, or braiding nonsense (as much as I'd love to, I just don't have the talent or patience). As far as how-to achieve my "look," if we'll even call it that, it's very straightforward, and there might very well be easier/better ways to do it, but here is what goes down on my crown:

  1. For best results, I like having wet, freshly washed hair, so I am easier able to hike it up to the crown of my head (without having major flyaways-my hair is still too short, so I have to use bunches of hairspray, and bobby pins to keep hairs from falling underneath).
  2.  Use smoothing brush (thick head of bristles) after towel drying hair, and flip your head upside down. Smoothe all areas around your head, and, if your hair is long enough, get a nice, medium-high ponytail secured. If your hair is short like mine, on the last wrap of the hair-band, pull hair a little more than half-way through band, so that you have a "loop." Take the loop, and proceed to spread the hair around in a circle, creating a "bun." That's it!
  3. I loop around/secure stray hairs with bobby pins, and give it more hairspray.

If you want to achieve THIS kind of bun

You're outta luck, because this was all the magic of professional hands

Now, onto something I am a bit more seasoned at:

Hair Products!

I LOVE my products! To a fault!...I cannot walk into Sephora without going gaga - I could buy that entire store if I could afford to! It's one of those stores I cannot go in unless I have a plan, and even then, I still end up with much more than I intended on buying wink Oopsie Daisies.

So here's what's IN MY HAIR, Dolls:

For buns, specifically, I use a pea-sized squeeze of

Schwarzkopf "BC" bonacure, Repair Rescue

Right after the shower. It's the first product I put in (wet hair).

OR

I use Morrocan Oil

...Then, I do 3-4 spritzes of  "It's a 10" miracle leave-in plus Keratin

Keeps my hair really shiny, and smoothe!

...and LAST, but certainly not least, I give myself a generous spray of my beloved Kenra, light hold design spray, No. 9

Not only does it smell like cotton candy, it gives just the right amount of hold, but doesn't leave my hair feeling stiff and crunchy! It's the BEST!

Yummy yummy hair spray, I tell ya! ...

And that's all! Not too many products up in this coif!  ...I hope you've enjoyed my hair-product photo shoot - I was in hair & makeup for 2 hours prior (obviously) to make sure things were sassy for your eyeballs. I hope I haven't disappointed <note: maaaaaajor sarcasm>.

That about does it on the Ballerina Bun front! I hope I've sufficiently answered your question, Laurie! Thank you for the question!

I need to get going on my packing, Dolls! California here I come! California here I come!

Thanks Amy! ... I have, what I like to call “paint brush” hair - it’s fine, but I have a lot of it…My hair also does not take well to a lot of product - just a little, and I’m good to go! xoxo
