Get Up Close & Personal With YOURSELF!

November 1, 2012

Hi Peanuts!

It’s almost my anniversary! It’s almost my anniversary! It’s almost my anniversary! It’s almost my anniversary! It’s almost my anniversary!

What’s shakin’?!?

Here ahhhhh aayyyeeem, Uptown, representin’ Downtownwhat? what?

<Sigh> …

...Annnnnd here we are again..Day 4…no power.

I’ve given up trying to resume normalcy…Again, I’m trying my BEST to be somewhat productive, but a (BIG) part of me wants to just vegetate in bed and tune in to the boob tube until I get a text from Notify NYC that says “All downtown power has been restored.” Ahhhh wouldn’t that be nice?!

Cross your fingers for me, will you?!? (but don’t hold your breath!)

Muchas Gracias!

Alright, are you ready to get up close and personal with…

Sounds a bit naughty, yes? But that’s not what I meeeeaaaaaannnn… wink

What I’d like to emphasize today is the importance of carving out some time -minutes, hours, or even a whole day- to devote to your whole self and nothing but yourself!

Because it’s way too easy to get wrapped up in the frazzled chaos of our everyday lives – babies, work, taking care of the house, cooking, cleaning, socializing, etc. – frankly it’s out of control.

O.O.C.! Like my girl Mariah (the real MC) sang circa 2008…

Most of us (myself included) get sucked into the sh*t storm of life and hesitate to take a moment to ourselves because we just “don’t have time.”

But guess what, Peeps?…

That excuse is LAME-SAUCE, because you and I both know that

“If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.” – Marie Forleo

Okay, so now you might be thinking…‘giving myself quality alone time isn’t important to me, so there!’BUT!hear me, hear me compadres…

If you care about your family…

If you care about your job…

If you care about your friends…

If you care about your health…

If you care about your success…

If you care about yourself…

It is IMPERATIVE that you carve out time (I recommend at least an hour a week) for you to do something alone that serves a restorative, relaxing, invigorating and/or beautifying purpose.

Because this stuff makes us feel good! It gives us a moment to turn inward, reflect and initiate change (for the better)! When we feel good about ourselves, we project that positivity onto everyone and every thing in our life we make contact with. Good things happen to us when we feel our best…and sometimes they don’t (but we’re much better equipped to smooth-over sticky situations when we’re feeling like a million bucks…AND they usually turn into good situations!).

Likewise, when we don’t feel good, we project that negativity onto everyone and every thing in our life.

You see how the way we feel affects all areas of our life?

It becomes a domino effect…

So, don’t let your funky mood get out of control. Find peace in having “me time” weekly. Some weeks this could mean spending 10 minutes a day to meditate, and other weeks it could mean reserving an entire afternoon to yourself  – to exercise, cook, clean, organize (if you find it therapeutic like me), read, take a bath, get a massage, get your nails done, etc-WHATEVER you enjoy doing alone.

I don’t know about you, but I loooooove the feeling after I get my hair all fancy and blown out – I feel like a foxy, sexy Dubie! It makes me feel yummy and loved and it lifts my spirits. Not that I go and get a blow out weekly, but it’s one treat I enjoy giving myself occasionally. Most of the time, my “alone time” consists of me at home by myself – either reading on the couch, writing or in the kitchen cooking. I find those activities give me peace, clear my head and make me feel relaxed.

What about you? What sorts of alone-activities strike your fancy?

I know this can be extra tough for mommies (especially with naughty babies), but listen up: YOU NEED IT MOST OF ALL! Even if it’s you grocery shopping by yourself for an hour…get out and be alone! Talk to your honey about needing to do this for yourself weekly and maybe set a day and a time where you will always be guaranteed your “me time.”

At the end of the day, EVERYONE and EVERYTHING benefits from us taking time for ourselves.

Word. I’ve said my peace.
