Taste The Rainbow

October 9, 2011

What's cookin' Pumps?! ...Did y'all have your deep fried chocolate chip + french fry + bacon + belgian waffles this morning?! - Guaranteed to make you feel like gold?!?!?! wink

All kidding aside, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Weather nice? Good company? Good food? Good drink? Good experiences? I hope all of you answered a resounding "yes ma'am!" to all or most of those questions...

Over here, Summer decided to show it's unwelcome face here in the Citay (85 degrees-wth). While most would grab for bikinis and boardshorts, and book it to the nearest area where they could soak up even just a sliver of sunshine, I. am. not. For one, comfortable and convenient, bikini-friendly locations are severely lacking in Manhattan. For two..

It's FALL!!!

...You know, crisp, comfortable temperatures, that give you an excuse to don cozy sweaters, sip hot apple cider, and enjoy the smell of pumpkin spice wafting in the air! For the love of god. Summer should be sleeping! Just as I was getting into my Fallish Groove, things were rudely interrupted by this uncharacteristic change in weather. <sigh>. But...What are ya gonna do?!

Now that I've vented to y'all about my dislike for this warm weather-front, I can move on (how selfish of me!)wink Let's talk...

Smart Snackin'

After last night's breaking-of-the-fastaka "Yom Kippur," where there was an abundance of food, we were offered leftovers to take home. We took-home-smart, and nabbed a giant bag of various raw vegetables featured in the cruidité! yes

Our bag included some of the following veggies!

  • Carrots
  • Snap Peas
  • Green Beans
  • Jicama
  • Cucumber
  • Squash
  • Celery
  • Cauliflower
  • Broccoli
  • Bell Peppers
  • Asparagus

...Thanks to this genius decision, we were able to taste the rainbow, in the snack plate I prepared for HB and I:

Our colorful veggies were paired with a classic garlic hummus + blue corn tortilla chips.

In any given day, try to incorporate as many fresh fruits and vegetable as you possibly can! LOAD 'EM UP! Just in case you need a reminder...

Fruits & Veggies are high-volume power foods! They're filled with water, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which will leave you feeling full, satisfied, happy, and healthy!

For kicks, here's something you may want to try...

Have your cheeseburger, sandwich, donut, or whatever "junk food" it is you like to eat, but only if you also pair it with a vegetable or fruit! Don't take away, just ADD! See what happens over time...wink

Before I leave you, here's some food for thought, put so eloquently by Michael Pollan:

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

That's a wrap!

...I'll be speaking to y'all soon!

Big Kiss kiss
