Warm Up To These Foods When You’re Frazzled

October 26, 2012

Holy Sweet Jebus! …

We made it to FRIDAY, Y’ALL!!!

…you know what Friday calls for, don’t you? …

Booty Shaking!

Woop!

And how about a little…

‘Shake, shake, shake Senora!’

…An ode to one of my favorite flicks, Beetlegeuse in light of the the spoOOoooOOOoooky holiday upon us!

Sing along with me now…

‘Shake, shake, shake Senora, shake your body line…
Shake, shake, shake Senora, shake it all the time…
Work, work, work Senora, work your body line…
Work, work, work Senora, work it all the time…

<cue the booty shaking!>

My girl’s name is Senora. I tell you friends I adore her.
When she dances oh, brother,
she’s a hurricane in all kinds of weather.
Jump in the line rock your body in time.
O-kay! I believe you’…

Well hot dayyuuuuum, that was fun! yes

Clearly, there’s no hiding my excitement for the weekend.

Who’s with me? cheeky

Since I neglected to administer Thursday’s dose, today’s is exceptionally juicy – I’m fitting it all in, Peeps – videos + music + booty shaking + food + fun – Super gangsterlicious! heart

We’ve about covered the gamut, but it’s time for me to cut the minutiae and give you good food! … wink

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of blending. Ahhhhhh, I love blending (especially because I am a proud owner of the Vitamix). I love that I can pack so much nourishment into just 16-24 ounces of liquid. Not only is it efficient (best way to get in your daily dose of greens, I think) it’s also delicious, and the recipe and flavor combos are ENDLESS! I am constantly experimenting and creating new, yummy concoctions. It’s THE BEST, but it’s also…

REALLY COLD!

As the temperatures drop, I’m finding myself craving sweet, warming foods, which is fine and all, except for the fact that I’m fighting the craving.

Why?

Because so many of my favorite foods are cooling-(I am a California girl, after all!) I mean, we’re talking about guacamole, cucumbers and strawberries year-round, folks! – Hello chips and salsa for Christmas!

You see, I never physically felt “off” eating this way because, let’s be honest, California only has “a” season and that’s sunny and 70 degrees. <eye roll>

Psssht! (something I’m totally jealous of in the January and February months)

But HERE, oooooh ladies, New York is another animal! The way I feel emotionally is totally affected by what kinds of food I put in my body, and frankly, all of the cooling (albeit delicious and healthy) foods I’ve been filling myself up with lately have not been hitting the spot, nor have they been helping my recent frazzled, anxious and emotionally sensitive soul.

You see, warming foods comfort us – they make us feel (both literally and figuratively) “warm & fuzzy inside.” It’s no joke. Mother Nature knows wussup!

So, if you’re feeling especially stressed, angry, sad, anxious or uneasy, think about the food choices you make for yourself, and make an effort to eat
